Ishida Uryu (

[A prudent question.]
[If he's entirely honest, for a long time now, there has been someone he's cared for deeply... but since before they'd even met, her heart had belonged to another. And, finally, after years of watching her pine, she was able to break through the thick skull of the dense boy she loved. She's happy with him, and he with her, and though it would be a lie to say he doesn't feel a pang when he thinks of it, Ishida wishes them nothing but the best together. She'll be far happier with him than she'd have been had she ever discovered Uryu's secret feelings for her.]
I'm without romantic entanglements.
[He shakes his head, a small, rueful smile tugging at his lips.]
I've never made a priority of them.
[After a beat, though, he realizes how that might sound.]
Ah – not that, of course, I wouldn't make it a priority were I to enter into a relationship –
[he tries to reassure her, the hurried words practically tumbling from his lips.]
[Glancing to Tricia, he finds himself wondering if she has a 'preferred partner', as she phrased it. Then again, she was privy to this arrangement, unlike Uryu, and presumably agreed to it. Though the question neared the tip of his tongue, it didn't escape his lips. He would trust her to tell him of her own initiative, if such was the case.]
... I imagine the subject was broached sooner to you than it was to me.
[Quite the understatement. He somehow doubted she'd been informed of Sokken's intentions for them postmortem.]
